Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who is this course for?

Anyone who wants to prepare Canadian personal tax returns professionally, whether you're starting out, adding tax preparation to an existing bookkeeping or accounting practice, or preparing returns for family and friends and want to do it properly.

Do I need a tax or accounting background?

No. The program starts with how the Canadian tax system works and builds up to full returns. A comfort with numbers and spreadsheets helps.

Which tax year does it cover?

The 2026 tax year, for returns filed in spring 2027. Where final 2026 forms or year-end changes weren't confirmed when this edition was prepared, the lessons say so clearly.

Do I need to buy tax software?

The course teaches TaxCycle, and the Practice setup module shows you how to license it when you're ready to file for clients. You can follow the lessons before buying a license.

How long do I have access?

Lifetime access to this course, on both payment options. Work at your own pace.

How does the payment plan work?

You pay CA$333.34 + HST today and the same amount two and four weeks later, charged automatically to the same card. You get full access from the first payment. If a payment fails, we'll email you and retry automatically.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. You receive a course completion credential when you finish the program.

Does this course qualify me as a tax preparer?

Canada doesn't license personal tax preparers, so anyone can prepare returns. To file electronically for clients you need a CRA EFILE number, and the course walks you through applying for one.
